We have made pretzels, chow mein and many more exciting dishes. During cooking lessons, we each get a role: for example, some people had to knead the dough for our pretzels. Every dish had different roles but most of the roles involved chopping ingredients. It was useful as we got to watch other people have a go before doing it ourselves. The dish that had the most chopping was probably the chow mein or the vegetarian paella.

We travelled on a coach over night; then we went on a boat called the Scillonian III and finally we went on our second boat called the Firethorn to the island of Bryher. We arrived at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon after setting off at 10pm the previous night.

Over the course of the afternoon, we learnt different techniques: drawing, printing and attaching into/onto clay. We each had a (huge!) piece of clay, where we practised the different techniques, once they had been demonstrated.

Luckily, the rain stayed away, and we were able to fully enjoy being outside! We had 3 activities on rotation: free play, ‘garden plate’ making and cress seeds and team building games. The free play always involves mud – so much mud – and it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to just let go and be ‘free!’.

On Mondays, we have a ‘marvellous Monday’ session, where we complete science-based activities. Last week we made noise defenders out of whatever materials we had. Some of us made some brilliant defenders, which actually blocked out sound! Unfortunately, not all of us managed it – but we did have a good old laugh when we modelled wearing our noise defenders. That’s the main thing, right?!
