END OF YEAR BLOG
Welcome to our final Year 3 blog for 2024-2025! We have now arrived at the end of the school year and had lots of different experiences and learning going on all year. Some of our highlights have included drumming workshops with Mr Garraway, a trip to the theatre and our recent visit to the STEM Centre.
Our final term has been busy with lots of different things going on.
English
In English we have been reading ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ by CS Lewis. We wrote our own adventure story based on this with characters who went to visit a new world. Some lovely ideas were produced and the stories were brilliant to read. We then spent some time writing and performing playscripts based on traditional tales. Some brilliant acting skills were definitely on show.
Maths
In maths we finished our work on fractions before moving onto measurement. One of the trickiest challenges was converting units across – although with some determination lots of success was definitely seen. We then finished our maths units by looking at statistics and learning how to identify the correct scales for bar charts and values for pictograms.
History
Our History has been all about life in Ancient Egypt. We have learned about why the Egyptians settled where they did and the impact they began to have on the world around them. We got to learn all about hieroglyphics and had a go at writing our own name and then a simple message. Our favourite lesson was probably the one in which we learned about the process of mummification. We even got to have a got a ‘mummifying’ an orange by scooping out the insides, filling it with salt and bicarbonate of soda and then wrapping it in bandages.
Design and Technology
Our most recent DT unit has been a huge hit amongst the children. We have been learning about pneumatic systems and then had a go at creating our own pneumatic toys. Some amazing ideas were created and the children were rightly proud of the work the produced.
Sports Day
As always the summer term also saw the arrival of Sports Day – brilliantly organised by Miss Lowdon. This was a chance for us to demonstrate our throwing, balancing and running skills that we have been learning in PE. Thank you to all who came and supported on the day.
As you can see it has been busy, busy, busy in Year 3 and we have had a great end to our year. We wish the children all the best in Year 4 and can’t wait to hear about what they have been getting up to!
