Children's letter - 22nd May

Dear children

Hello, how are you all. I hope you have been working hard for your grown up’s today? Next week would have been half term so do make sure you get this weeks work done so that you can do some different things next week.

A fabulous dancer to make us smile:

I thought I would show you a shell I found on the beach last year:

It’s the purple one in the picture and I found it on the beach in Bryher, Isles of Scilly (you know, I talk about it all the time!). I was a bit puzzled because I had never found a shell like that before and also because it was a very thin and fragile shell.

That made me do some research and I found out all about Purple Bubble Raft Snails – they are amazing things.

They spend their whole life surfing on the open ocean – think about those huge waves and the small and fragile snail.  What they do, is collect bubbles and wrap them up in mucus so they work like a raft.

Their shells are paper thin to allow them to float – so that’s why the shell is so fragile.  Believe it or not they eat jellyfish and other similar animals and they can be found in all the oceans of the world.  What an amazing creature and I had never heard of it before.

What are you going to do to help your family at home next week?

I have put an empty helping hand at the very bottom of the page. You can print it off or draw around your own hand and write on all the fingers what you are going to do to help at home next week. If you send in your completed hands (when you’ve done the jobs) I will put them on my next newsletter.

This is bigger in the attached letter
