INVERTIBRATE HUNTING!

This term in science we have been learning about animals and their habitats. In class we learnt about grouping animals using their characteristics to classify them using the groups vertebrates or invertebrates.

Vertebrates are animals that have a backbone for example: cheetahs, penguins and polar bears. Whereas invertebrates are animals that don’t have a backbone such as; butterfly, starfish and slug.

We went to hunt for invertebrates in our school ground. As we were hunting, we were thinking about the specimens we were going to look for when locating invertebrates. We found lots of different invertebrates in our school ground including, lots of spiders, worms, slugs and snails. We had to be very careful with them and handle them very carefully as they are small. We used magnifying glasses to identify characteristics. After we carried out our investigation, we went back to class without invertebrate specimen to create a labelled diagram of our invertebrate.
