OUR TIME AT HILLTOPS!

Making Memories on our trip to Hilltops

Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful three-day stay in Norfolk at the Hilltop Outdoor Learning Centre. The children took part in an exciting range of activities, including the Tree Top Trail, Archery, Crate Stacking, Rock Pooling, Air Jump and an Assault Course.

We set off bright and early on Monday morning for the two-and-a-half-hour coach journey to Norfolk. On arrival, we were shown to our rooms and groups for the stay, before unpacking and having our packed lunches. Afterwards, it was straight into our first activities! Everyone gave their best effort, living up to Hilltop’s motto of “challenge by choice.”

After the first activity, the children had time to relax. Some chose the games room to play pool, table tennis or table football, while others enjoyed some quiet time with a book or a calm game of Uno. Dinner that evening was sausages with wedges, followed by chocolate and vanilla ice cream—a real treat!

Once we had our dinner, we headed outside to play our first evening activity – Mad hatters. It was like a big game of catch with some slightly different rules. If you were the taggers, you had to wear a mad hatter’s hat. It was very funny and we had a great time! There were lots of laughs and plenty of running, leaving us ready for a good night’s sleep.

The next day, we woke nice and early, ready to take on the new day of challenges. We went straight to breakfast – we were spoilt for choice; cereal; toast; fruit; and a cooked English breakfast. We were very full. We then got ourselves ready for the first activity of the day. We had a great morning completing the activities with our brilliant instructors.

For lunch, we had a pizza and salad and a biscuit for dessert. After eating our lunch, we headed off to our next activity of the day where we had lots of fun. We all really challenged ourselves and showed great teamwork qualities.

Lunch was pizza with salad and a biscuit, before heading off for more adventurous activities in the afternoon. After showers and a change, the children tucked into roast chicken with all the trimmings. The evening’s activity was Enchanted Forest, which was a big hit! Working in small groups, the children raced to find hidden images in the woods, earning points for their teams. It was great fun and rounded off another busy day perfectly.

Wednesday came around quickly, and it was time to pack up. The children did a brilliant job tidying their rooms ready for inspection before enjoying a continental breakfast. Afterwards, we travelled to West Runton beach for some rock pooling. Despite the rain, the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the rock pools and discovering different sea creatures—it was fascinating!

We then headed in for our final lunch, wraps and cake. The instructors then came to say goodbye before we headed back onto the bus for the 2-and-a-half-hour journey home to be reunited with our grown-ups. Overall, we had an amazing few days away and made some brilliant memories!

A fun few days in school…

Whilst the other Year 4 children were having a blast in Hilltops, we were having just as much fun in school with Mrs Pettitt and Mrs Nightingale.

On Monday morning, the children enjoyed indoor PE where they designed their own games. This was followed by a creative clay session, making their own masterpieces, before ending the day with a game of the 1% Club.

On Tuesday, the focus was on imagination and design. In the morning, the children planned and designed their very own theme parks. In the afternoon, they invented original board games—and of course had time to play them afterwards!

On Wednesday, the children painted their clay models, which had now dried, making each one bright and unique.

Overall, Year 4 had a fun and creative few days, whether at Hilltops or back at school!
