JUNE IN YEAR 3

It has been another great few weeks in Year 3. The children have really enjoyed getting stuck into our curriculum and learning lots of new things including making s'mores in outdoor learning.

English

In English the children have finished reading ‘The Dancing Bear’ by Michael Morpurgo. We had the opportunity to write our own alternate ending to the story which was great fun. We have recently started ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ by CS Lewis. The story focuses on Digory and Polly. We have just left Digory standing in a study with his Uncle Andrew after Polly took a ring and disappeared.

Maths

In maths we have now finished our unit on fractions. After initially being a little bit nervous when we had to add and subtract fractions the children grasped this concept really well and showed some great progress.

Science

Our Science unit is currently about plants. We had a really fun lesson where we got to pull apart a lily to look at the parts of the flower. We have also started to look at the processes of living things using MRS GREN to help us remember.

Other topics

We have recently started our new history unit on Ancient Egypt – this has linked really nicely back to our trip to the theatre in February and children have retained a lot of information. In DT we managed to finish our photo frame unit. The children loved coming up with creative designs and produced some amazing work.

As you can see we have been up to a lot in Year 3. We are looking forward to what the end of the year holds for us and cannot wait to share it with you later on in the year.
