Governors and Governor Documents

About the Governing Body

The governing body complements the school’s professional leadership team; being a ‘critical friend’ by using our skills and experience to support the school as well as providing appropriate challenge by holding the school leadership accountable for outcomes. In addition to this we have statutory responsibilities, such as to approve planned budgets and expenditure, make decisions on salaries and be involved in recruitment of new staff.

Full Governing Body Meetings are held twice a term and these are supported by three committee groups; Resources (encompassing Finance, HR and Health & Safety), Standards (encompassing achievement, quality of teaching, inclusion and behaviour) and Strategy (meeting as required to ensure that the school continues to plan effectively for the future). See our governor structure and other important documents displayed at the bottom of this page.

Our Current Priorities

At The Hills Academy, the governors and staff are continuously trying to improve outcomes for pupils and this is done through a systematic approach to information seeking, examination of internal and external data, identification of areas for development and the setting of aspirational targets that are then underpinned by a strategic plan with clear success criteria.  Accountability for outcomes is ensured through monitoring, evaluation, feedback and staff appraisal as well as external review.

Making The Hills Even Better

We are investigating other ways for securing improvement works to the school, such as classroom painting and improved computer facilities.  We really would welcome any ideas parents and carers have in this respect (or indeed in any of the above matters).  If you would like to be considered to undertake these works (either in a volunteer or professional capacity), please do not hesitate to contact us.

Contact the Governors

We always welcome any ideas, feedback or questions on the role of the governors.  If you would like to get in touch, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office.
