Week commencing Monday 15th May 2017

Welcome to our weekly Reception blog!

This week we have worked really hard on our addition and subtraction calculations and have begun to practise counting on or back using number lines to solve calculations.  We have listened to the story of 'The Ant and the Grasshopper' and talked about its message of working hard and thinking ahead.

Next week our story focus will be, 'The Great Pet Sale' by Mick Inkpen and in our mathematics we will be focusing on measuring capacity, weight and length and using the appropriate mathematical vocabulary to describe our observations.  We will also be attempting a simple classification of  some animals by their number of legs and in our writing we will practise writing a story.

The children are very good now at identifying single letter sounds but can sometimes forget the names of the letters.  Over the weekend it would be helpful if the children could practise identifying both letters names and sounds with you.  We would be very happy to share your successes in class next week!
